I picked up a 30-06 FN mauser with a vintage Weaver K4 on it. It has honest miles on it and the bore is bright and shiny. The guy I bought it from (who had never shot it) said it has a fast twist barrel from looking, I have not tested it for twist. It does have a million twists in there on looking. Stock has the usual crack thru the wrist but intact. I am planning to shoot it soon and let that be the test, if it shoots after all these years it will stay as it (after fixing the stock). Trigger made in Finland, receiver in Belgium. I am thinking this is a commercial mauser action put together by someone. Any way to determine thru the proof marks who made it... I paid $225 for it.
Definitly a great deal. That one is worth putting some money into, or just repair the stock and hunt from now on till you hand it down to your grandkids.

Some of these FN sporters were produced with multiple rifling barrels, similar to Marlin's Micro-Groove rifling.
I have one from Eaton's of Canada, a True-Line Model 100. It has twelve grooves! Not as nice a looking stock as yours, but the thing shoots very, very well, especially with 180 gr bullets.
You got yourself a steal of a deal on this one. The action alone is worth much more than what you paid for the rifle.
I new the action was worth the $225 but the whole thing is seeped in history. I brought it home and my 3 year old daughter said "daddy I love your new gun", looks like she has her first elk rifle... Any ideas on pinning the stock or other such fix?
Well it turns out a beauty, took it to the range today and had only 10 rounds loaded (for a guy with 4 30-06's I have no excuse) with 180 grain Hornady SP. It shows great promise, I will need to tinker...
May I respectfully appeal to you to make it your new Avatar? Sure would be more pleasant on the eyes, IMHO...
