Recently got to handle a BLR and absolutely loved it. I'm looking to get one in one of my favorite rounds, the 358 Winchester. Was curious if there was any benefit to going with one style or the other. I handled one with the straight stock, they didn't have any pistol grip models to try. What do you guys prefer and why?

I have a straight stock BLR in 358 Winchester.
I love the looks of the pistol gripped version though and initially wanted to buy one.
I shouldered both styles at the guns shop and it was the straight gripped version that fit me best. Sad but true.

Funny. I like the looks of the straight stock but the pistol grip fit like a glove.

My only BLR is an early Jap steel receiver .358, but if I was in the market for one of the new ones, I do like the feel of the pistol grip. Came close to buying one in .325 but don't need three .325s.

I prefer the straight grip for my BLR. The more closed the grip, the slower it is to point. I think that the more the closed the grip is, the more stable the aim though.
With a heavier varmint rifle I like closed grips, with lighter rifles that need to get on target fast I like open grips. My 358 BLR (old style) is a straight grip. My 223's are heavier closed pistol grips.

I prefer a straight grip. And the pre81 action. They just come up faster for me.

Mine is a .358 Win with pistol grip. I like it, but I've never shouldered a straight grip BLR for comparison. I think the pistol grip is the better looking of the two by far, but that's subjective.

My 358 BLR was a straight grip and it was OK. When recoil starts to climb in a lever gun, stout 45-70, 348 Win, etc., I prefer a pistol grip.
Conduct is the best proof of character.
