Come say hello to my little friend. He came to us in the usual way - I merely paid money to secure his release from his former owner in whose eyes he had lost favour. He's a bit of a dark fellow, but then again he was meant to serve on the Dark Continent. His true colour is as dark as a chocolate marble cake. He's that darkly stained.

Otto Bock designed this rifle cartridge in 1905 to protect and provide for his fellow Germans living in Africa. His bore is 9.3 and his chambering measures 62mm. So naturally "Spanky" is dressed in a Bavarian style full stock. Yes, I know his name is not very Germanic sounding but I'm sure with his kick will live up to his name. So Spanky he is. He comes with a single set trigger as standard equipment. So you could say he has a frightful temper and a hair trigger.

Spanky now wears a NECG peep sight for hunting in thick cover but came with a handy set of 30mm Talley quick release split rings. These will secure a low power scope when the time comes. In the mean time, I'm loading up some personalized fodder [232 grain Oryx] for Spanky to spit out at the range and some deadly 250 grain Barnes TSX bullets should he want to take down even the biggest bears on this continent, or any other continent for that matter.

Spanky behaves more like a fine shotgun in my hands than a rifle. His design enables him to point and swing like a true partner in the dance of life we call hunting.

Regards, B. wink wink

That is Czech rendition in that Deluxe Eruo line that Sako of Finland calls Bavarian edition. Apparently Fritzie like that type of strong flavored pistol grip. The wood quality & checkering is whole lot better than full-stocked Medium in same caliber I used to own. We American peasants get the sapwood.

When one looks at typical mid-bore vintage magazine rifle chambering from Great Britain one sees heavy slugs at 2200fps to 2400fps. The fact that this number kills game well is not surprising. It does away with one fault of .375H&H magnum which is pushing typical loading about 200fps too fast.

Mine really liked Norma 285's (286?) and Re 15 at 2280 fps. Nice rifle! Good luck! Terry

Nope but I smacked a couple of truckloads using the original 250 gr TSX in 2002. Worked beautifully, from porcupine to this guy below. I would not hesitate using the TSX on much.

I have shot 250 grain Nosler Accubonds using MuleDeers RL-15 load at 2650 fps and it shoots under an inch, no actual game killing experience with this load.

The recoil is surprisingly mild. He shall earn a better name soon.

At the moment I'm waiting for 30mm - 1" inserts for mounting the scope.

What 30mm scope would you mount on this CZ rifle?

4ager- the recoil is best described as a solid bump with the existing butt-pad.

luv2safari- the stock serves its purpose very well in directing the recoil. As I stated before this firearm fits, points and swings like a shotgun for this shooter.

The go-to-load is Barnes 250 gr TSX and 54-54.5 gr of H4895 using Lapua and Norma cases. Thankfully I also have a fair amount of 232 gr Norma Oryx bullets for everyday use. smile

Once again I am missing the logic. crazy So push 350's at 2200-2400 fps in the H&H. The H&H is a different beast and for good reason.

Sorry missed this one. I used a compressed charge of VV-N550 under the original 250 gr X in Norma brass.

You bet I have. A number of Cape buffalo, as well as assorted plains game have dropped with H414 and the 250 TSX. That is THE load for me in the 9.3 X 62.

JB's load of 60 grs Varget and 250 TSX was my first....and last load as it is very accurate and performs great on moose and grizzly.

That is what I use in mine, only taken hogs, but it certainly puts them down...with some authority! smile

And don't worry about range as the large, wounded, bull moose I shot last fall was 380 yards and the TSX opened nicely and put him down.

Varget? Haven't seen any in Canada for longer than I care to say. I'm having a hard time squeezing 55 grains of H4895 into a 9.3x62 case and seating the bullet to 3.290". Compressed load?

I'm seeing Youtube clips of guys taking 400-500 yard shots with this caliber. Are these reasonable hunting distances for this gun?
