I'd say they're out there. Sometimes you will encounter them in the most unlikely places.
I have a 1899 Montreal Home Guard recently purchased abroad. Original family and in original condition. New to this forum so forgive me for no photo.

This is my 250 savage from about 1916 . It is in about perfect shape except it has two holes drilled and tapped on the top of receiver ring.I have been lurking in the shadows and thought this picture would make a good first post. Tons of information here . Thanks

Appears to have been well cared for.

If it is just drilled on the receiver ring it likely had a Williams mount on it. Williams used the factory tang hole in the rear.

Yes just the ring has been drilled . The front blade and screw are also missing .I find it hard to believe it was made such a long time ago.

I have one of those 1895's resting somewhere in the safe. Purchased several years ago by my late boyfriend Sunvalleyguy. He was so happy to have found one although not in the best of shape. I am lucky enough to have gotten the early releases of the 99F in 243, 308, and 358. Also a take down in 300 with the .410 barrel. My favorite is my 1919 250-300 take down. My prettiest is my 99EG. One day I would like to find a hex barrel, 26" in 30-30 in great condition. The ones I have are in 303, one tired and one reblued. Can't own them all, but sure nice to try.

Got a 68, 78, and 82. All 99c's and all in 308. The 68 is new to me and in slightly rougher shape than the other 2. Only the 82 has had no refinishing work. All are hunting rifles, have been dragged through miles of brush, brought home backstrap, and keep coming back for more.

Have a 30-30 TD mfg. in 1937/38. Not "collector grade" but is a practical deer rifle. Have another 30-30, a carbine, appears to be a 99-H. This one dates to 1913. It does, however, have a short barrel, about 18".

Looking forward to this site and forum. Found it while looking for Savage info.

Welcome to the site. That's how I found my way here, and now I have more Savages than the rest of my guns put together, Joe.

Finally found a 22 HP 99 G to complete my G model collection recently. I seems in pretty nice shape to me (see photos below) with some nice lever case color and is all original as near as I can tell.

It looks OK next to my 30-30 and 303 G's but makes my 250 and 300 G's look like crap. Now I gotta find a nicer one in those two calibers so they don't distract from the three nice ones.
