I want to bring along a neck knife or some sort of knife to carry while in these three countries. Any suggestions of what will keep me out of trouble?

blade under 3.3 inches
no daggers or false daggers grind
no one hand opening for folders
no open assist for folders

keep it friendly looking and you should be ok. Peel fruit with it, type.

I travel a lot in Europe and I agree with Ready's post above.

I'd avoid a neck knife (far too "Rambo"), and stick to something like a simple Swiss Army knife (and even then, avoid models with a locking blade or a big blade).

I'd further suggest a model with a corkscrew. Wine-drinking Europeans are likely to accept your knife if you "carry it for the corkscrew" smile

You want a model like the one above that downplays the "weapon" aspect and emphasizes the "useful pocket tool" aspect. smile

An Opinel #8 might be worth considering too. Great steel, and a long history (especially in Europe) and it's from France, and everyone knows nothing dangerous come from France. The blade also locks into place--------albeit the whole process is NOT tactically quick----------which might be a nudge in it's favor over the SAK. Plus you'd have a great EDC knife once you got back home.
