Oh yes I know, Black Diamond stocks are easier to find. I figured to post my wants a few places because you never know what someone might have in their "saved good stuff" box in the gun room.

I am thinking Cuba might not be a bad idea.

I am just going to have to keep vigilant and patient.

Thanks!

when you say deluxe, do you mean single diamond forearm checking or the 3 diamond skeet style checking?
do you need original or remake?

I'm down by Wichita. The extended forearm with one of the diamond type patterns the field, skeet or trap (not the ringed). Original would be nice but a reproduction is better than none.

You are right its out there but the age of the guy that has it is not going to give a flip about a computer or be like me looking for a set of mod 70 irons I know I took off and put in a zip lock with elevator and in a cigar box, Ive looked for 3 or 4 days, good new Ive found 2 guns and 3 scopes I had put under a bed at some point! One is a nice Doctor scope that I have to send back, something shook loose on a 300 win mag! I will check with my smith on a forearm. very best WinPoor

This gun came from a WWII vet that had passed, he had 30 some odd model 12's among other things. This one I bought was behind a false wall with other items. It was my brother in laws father. They have found guns in floor joist, rafters you name it.

It's an early 60's gun, I need to double check the serial on that. It is a Simmons conversion. I will post some photo's

I forget Simmons is still around, maybe I should give them a call.

serial 1933XXX

this is what i can tell you from the pics. the gun started out as a field grade gun. and as you stated, someone had a simmons rib installed. from what i can see of the stock, it looks like a pre 50's skeet grade stock. the pistol grip cap on 60's guns should be all metal. yours looks like it has the winchester logo on it. you need to count the lines per inch on your pistol grip checking. early check was 20 lpi. 60's is like 18 lpi. if you were to take off the pad, and put a winchester period butt on it, the lop should be 14 1/4". what is it now with the pad? you need to make the forearm checking match the stock to be more correct.
the pad tells me the owner hunted with it, since winchesters never came stock with pads unless it was a trap gun. so function overruled perfection. if you desire to make the gun more original, the pad should be replaced with a galazans winchester retro pad. in 62 it switched from soild red to white lined winchester. and your serial number is smack dab in 1962.

if i knew what way you wanted to go with this gun, i could help you.
options i see are....

1. just shoot it.
2. find a matching pre 50's forearm to match the pre 50's stock.
3. find a 60's field stock to match the field forearm.
4. remove both current stock and forearm, sell them, and install correct 60's style wood with correct buttplate or pad and correct steel grip cap.

how did i do?

I was out all day yesterday but back at it today.

I am definitely going to either put a repo pad or plate on. I need to check lpi and length of pull.

I am going to hunt it like all my firearms.

I think I am probably looking at option 2 in finding a forearm to match this butt-stock.

Thanks!

then youll need to ask for a single diamond checkered pre war skeet forearm $$$, because thats what your stock match is. good luck.

if all its going to do is be hunted with, putting a field grade stock on would be cheapest and it would be done fairly quick. and would be a closer match to what the gun was. with the sale of the stock you have now, it would most likely pay for a field stock and give you extra coin to buy the pad. but its your call of course.
for pads and buttplates...
go to www.connecticutshotgun.com/

expect to pay upwards of 300.00+ for that forearm. 100% inletted, checked, finished and fitted. 7 to 800 for a complete new retro set.

and like i say...taking a gun with that kind of coin hanging on it in the field takes guts. skeet range, sure. hunting? its enough to make a grown man cry. lol. :>

I have a few dedicated competition firearms but for the majority of what I own gets hunted. A little honest character wear never scared me and in some cases I like it more.

I hunt hard but take real good care of my stuff.

But you don't find stuff that is hard to find if you don't spread the word.

couple other model 12 hunters I have.

i know this sounds nuts, but you have a better chance of finding a complete wood set than just a forearm.
have you considered that? that way there isnt a stain match issue or mismatched grain issue to contend with.

First off thanks for your service!

Is Vanzant your facility? Looks like a great place to shoot.

I have shot with some AMU guys on the rifle end and a couple of air force team guys, one rifle and one skeet. All great shots.

Yes, if the right opportunity knocks I might go that direction because that may be easier.

I am patient, I'll have it in fine shape some day.

I would love to visit Vanzant someday and break a couple.

Cheers!

i flew the MT-1X single saddle.
sounds like your wood might be uncut and just has a pad was added. most pad installers sand the butt flat to make the flat pad match up. too bad. the original winchester buttplates have a slight curve. still its a nice modified stock with a' grade figure.
