My brother in law has a Gamo bonecollector 17 cal. The $25 scope that it came with has crapped out. Looking for suggestions for a 4x or 2-7x scope.

Not a 2-7x sorry, it's a 3-9X and is working well, Link Here Hawke 3-9HD Mil dot.

Hawke makes pretty good inexpensive scopes. I have a Nikon Prostaff EFR on my Beeman R9, really nice scope has held up for thousands of shots.

Hawke scopes are very popular over here and seem to be a reasonable quality at a given price point.

Which ever brand you go for, I highly recommend getting one specifically designed for airgun use and preferably with either PA or SF..If the scope is to be used for hunting, and illuminated reticule is a nice addition also..

I have a 3-9x40AO Hawke AirMax on a RWS 34 and it serves me very well. Hawke scopes are a good choice. Just make sure whatever scope you choose has an AO-Adjustable Objective. Pyramid Air and Airgun Depot are a good place to start.

The Leapers Bug Buster scopes are a good cheap scope also.

This is the same setup I have. Not been using it long but so far it seems like a good scope.
