I still use older scopes just for the reason the OP stated well that and the fact that I'm frugal ( some say cheap) but I definitely feel if it works don't mess with it. I still use a couple of vari xii scopes as well as a older Burris 4x and a scope chief 4x. Deer really can't seem to tell the difference that I have noticed and the scopes just keep on ticking. I do have a weaver K2.5 but my buddy is using it on of of his rifles.

I have several of the old steel tube Weavers that I use. The pigs that I kill with my Mule gun (1965 M700 30-06) don't know it is a 35 yr. old Weaver Marksman that targeted them.

I also have a Weaver K2.5 post&crosshair that I use on a 8.5 lb. .416. So far it has survived several hundred rounds of 350 gr. at 2550.

Tough old scopes.

For hunting, to me, everything begins and ends with fully multicoated optics. An old K6 is fmc'd and has wowwed more than one when comparing it to their old tried and true. Of course being fixed X back in the day was more important than it is today too. Just my ramblings on it.

heck I've got some old Tasco 4 Powers that actually work pretty darn well and I can see out of them just fine... I hunt at woods ranges mainly ( what I call 30/30 ranges)...so they are more than adequate...

and with crappy eye sight, a Tasco can be more than adequate...

even if not in vogue on a hunting web site..

I like vintage scopes and have several Lyman Alaskans, a 4x Lyman All American, a Weaver V4.5 and an early Leupold Vari-X II 2-7x. I've only had to replace the Weaver V4.5 due to fogging, all the others have given great service.

I still have one of the Lyman 10 power All American with the small dot from way back and it still works great

A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

Still have a couple of the old Weaver 2.5x scopes.. One is on my .45-70, the other has a broken crosshair.. Also a 6x Lyman All American, I think my oldest might be a 2.5-8x B & L on my old model 54 .30-06.. They still do a fine job..

Have had a couple of them. They were not a continuous variable, but could be set at 2 1/2 or 5 power.

And, you are so right about the sealing. Just had to think about it, and they would cloud up. wink

On the other hand my 300 H&H FN Sporter still carries its old Lyman All-American with post and crosshair.

Both rifle and scope still function as designed.

I have Leupold M-8 4x longtube on an old 98 8mmJS Mauser cigarette or guild rifle.
So far it is holding Zero.
When and if it ever fails to hold Zero I will send it back to Leupold and hopefully have it repaired.

Count for count I know I have more leupolds than any other scopes but I still have the first rifle and scope I ever bought. When I started hunting back in the '60's I bought a rifle with a "Hurricane" 4x scope. The flat honest truth is that rifle and scope combination put up with all the indecencies a teenager and his buddies could throw at it and still come out fighting. I still occasionally pull it out and run one down the tube just to see where we're at and I can't remember the last time I had to adjust it. Cheap but it worked (and still does).

They may be nice to look at and 'period correct', but no old Weaver scopes on my hunting rifles. Had two Weavers fog-up years ago when hunting in the rain/snow here in PA. No issues when using vintage Leupold M8's....
