Kind of need 2 bottles, a spool gun would be nice too. I'm not familiar with that one so I don't know if it would feed the aluminum fast enough. But if its set up for steel its got the wrong gas bottle.

Something clever here.

Hey Dave, you do much aluminum welding? I'm thinking of doing the frame for my deck on the boat project. I have a friends millermatic 130XP, it's set for steel, would it work with aluminum?

I'm not a welder but I play one on TV. (Actually I work for a mfg company that welds both steel and alum)

You will need to run straight Argon gas and probably find a place to rent you a spool gun. It is unlikely that alum will feed properly in the existing gun.

Or you could consider drilling holes and using buck rivets and silicone

Ryan,

Send a PM to cross. He's the welding guru. He's got a shop on his property in AZ.

I think I might have to just go with rivets, making the welder work sounds like it's gonna be spendy. even then I'd have to relearn to weld aluminum. if I did stuff like this frequently I would invest in it, but a one time shot doesn't make sense.

Thanks Guys!

We were successful this morning. The motor battery died at some point during the night so I had to do a quick boat landing swap with the trolling motor battery but that was fine. There was only a bit of wind so we had a nice drift going. Just used the regular motor to move back to the spot.

Me and two boys caught maybe a dozen crappies and bluegill in a few hours. Not fast and furious but fun.

Rained all weekend here, worked on the boat a bit. listened to the AM radio and oldies music in the garage. they had several memorial day tributes playing. kids played in the yard popping in from time to time to lend a hand or ask what I was doing. sipped on a couple coors lights in the afternoon. made homemade pizzas and watched a movie last night before bed.

Little colorado loves having her picture taken, not afraid to ham it up. I sealed the wood shown in resin last night to seal it good. I placed it in as a mock up to show what it will look like. carpet will go in this evening hopefuly.

Ryan-
What's your plans for replacing the floatation from your boat? Especiall from the middle seat that was removed. Considering doing a very similar conversion on my 14 ft. Lund.

Hard to tell from the photo Buschy, but it's described as a "kicker" !

They are usually long shaft.
