I ordered this a few months back but have decided to just stick with the one I already own.

Up for sale is a McMillan stock cut for the F.N. Mauser/ J.C. Higgins M98. They used their new SAKO Compact as a pattern. The stock has a 13.5" LOP, tan paint job, blue swivel studs and a 1" Pachmayr Decelerator pad.

The stock is brand new and will require inletting for the bolt handle. For some reason they don't do this on M98's.

$485 shipped.

Yeah, it's a nice stock but so close to the original SAKO Classic. The main difference as far as I can tell is it has about a 1" shorter forearm and no check piece.

The one pictured above is the SAKO Classic inletted for the for the Higgins. It already has the bolt handle inletted and has been repainted tan with DuraCoat. Never bedded. I'll let it go for $385 shipped if somebody likes it better and I will keep the new one.

Both are very close in color. The main difference is the lighting.

I need to sell one of these and really don't care which.

Top stock:
JC Higgins/ F.N. Mauser McMillan Classic repainted in DuraCoat Tan. A couple of very minor paint chips. I'll post some close ups if anyone wants to see them.

$385 shipped.

Bottom Stock:
JC Higgins/ F.N. Mauser McMillan SAKO Compact NEW

$485 shipped.

When one sells the other is off the market.

They are coming through fine on my computer and smartphone. You might try a different browser and see if that helps.

why don't you keep it and I wsill sell you my Sears Model 50 barreled action in 30-06 for $350 plus a little shipping and you will have a nice rig. Action needs a timney trigger and a little bit of work on the bottom metal, otherwise in great shape.

That would work but I already have a Higgins .30-06 and 2 stocks. I just don't need 2 of these. The Higgins barred action and McMillan stock combo makes a NICE all purpose rock solid rifle. I have no plans to part with the rifle. If I ever shrink my collection this will be the last to go. I just have an extra stock and really don't care which one I keep. They are both nice.

Kevin, you should buy this! wink

I am just glad you run a shorter LOP than me. Otherwise, I probably would have bought the stock and the barreled action by now. That puts up a nice rifle, Timney and rings for a grand. Hard to beat IMO.

The McMillan for my 98 should be showing up soon. Looking forward to holding the new Sako Compact pattern.

Not to detract from your sale but feel free to elaborate on the differences between the two.

The Compact has about a 1" shorter and no check piece. Other than that the differences are so small they aren't worth mentioning. They both have about the same drop, grip shape and dimensions. They both weigh about the same. The Classic comes in at 31.5 oz and Compact comes in 30.8 oz.

They are both excellent stocks with subtle differences.

Looking for the Sako classic stock for a J.C.Higgins model 50 as described above. Found the post and know it is old, but posting that I am looking for exactly that stock. Can't help myself.
