Been doing some testing on this 20 Practical ( Bolt Action)...
haven't pulled out the chrony yet, but boy are these bullets really explosive!!!
I tend to look at such stuff, thru the eyes of a being a medic in the military....
if these little suckers had to be used in something for home defense, they are going to be one nasty ass kicker...
one of these shot into a thigh, is going to be bad luck for a bad guy....
just have been able to shoot a few varmints of opportunity so far....but the 24 NTX seems to be more explosive ( combination of fragility, and higher velocity ) than the 40 VMax...
looking forward to getting out finally in the next week or two over to Klamath and spend a day, making lunch for the local Eagles, Hawks, Seagulls and Magpies...

Yeah -
The 32 Vmax from .204 Ruger speeds is nasty -
I would literally blow raccoon in Texas in half with them -

My 20 Practical.....up & running about 7 yrs or so....12T Pac Nor.. loves the 40 V max..right at 3900 with H4895....much flatter than the 32 V max..although the 32 V max has been used in my 20 Vartarg running at 3550....to keep inventory simple for my three 20's...I decided the 40 V works best....my third 20...the awesome 20-222....

tikkanut,
How much H4895 are you running to get 3900 with the 40-grain V-Max? Barrel length?

John, Im shooting the 32 Vmaxes out of a .204...pretty spectacular on gophs. They don't hold up quite as well in the wind as 40s so Im gradually shifting to 40s...

In .204 I run 28.0 grains of H335 under the 32 grain VMAX in WW brass with Remington 7-1/2 primers. I haven't chronographed the load. Just checked my load workup notes ... 0.495" center to center on a 5 shot group.
