I finally got out to shoot the old girl and see how it shoots!
I tried both the Sierra 165 grain HPBT, and the Hornady 160 grain FTX bullets.

This is the first of three concecutive groups of this average size.

The rifle shot both Leverevolution, and Varget VERY well!
Varget was producing around 125fps less velocity. Accuracy was essentially the same.

What a wonderful suprise to see this rifle shoot THIS GOOD!

I shot a few cast bullet loads as well, and it grouped around 2-1/2" for the two loads. Some improvement needed there.

Hope you guys enjoyed the pictures!

Thanks again "NORM"! Putting me onto that Scope mount makes shooting this rifle easy!

JeffG:

I was getting 2375fps with a WLR primer, and 35.0 Grains Leverevolution behind the 165 Grain Sierra HPBT.

Now hopefully this bullet style will expand at the 200 yard range. They should be going around 1945 fps still. This bullet has a better BC than the Hornady FTX 160 grain bullet.

That's a beauty. The only early EG I don't have is a 30-30. I think I need one if they shoot that good.

Unfortunately Sierra doesn't give a rec'd min velocity, but they do recommend starting them out at 2500 or better.

I figured this bullet was built for the 308win. Velocities.
I will still give it a try though. I should shoot this bullet into some test medium to see what it does. It would/could make the 30-30 more versatile.

Allot of reports on Hornady's 160grain FTX indicate the bullet construction is a little too light for the velocity range.
