Looking to run Talleys on a couple rifles I'm putting together for deer season this year. I'm looking to go with a Leupold 2-7x33 and a Meopta 3-9x42. Can I get away with extra lows and lows or do I need lows and mediums? What say y'all?

It would be nice to know what rifle these are going on...

HPB, I just put a set of ex-lows on a mod.7 this week with a VX2 2-7X33. Works perfect. Talley part# 920720. As for the Meopta, you're going to need the regular lows. Always remember, the Talley line runs a little higher than most other mount and ring manufacturers.
I was able to mount a 42mm scope in lows on a rifle with a barrel profile not as slim as a mod.7. It was close, but it cleared. Depending on which way you turn the front mount (they're reversible) you may contact the foot of the mount with the objective taper before you contact the barrel.

Put the ones on that allow a "straight" view through the scope whilst aiming the rifle. May require lows, maybe mediums, you will only know by trying. I just don't get this "set the scope as low as possible"...

I agree totally with what Ed is saying, it just seems that with the possible exception of my straight tube scopes with no obj. bell, that "straight view" is usually with the lowest mounts the scope will allow. Short neck and short head I guess. That and I prefer a dug-in cheek weld.

So it sounds like I need to get ex lows, lows, and mediums. Then see which ones brungthe scope up to my eye most naturally and resell whichever set doesn't work out. Thanks for the input everyone.

When I asked them why they had only a one piece base for my XP100 they responded with the offer to cut it, polish it & get it blued at no extra charge. When the first got lost in the USPS they repeated the process at no charge.
