Just a tip - if you're working up loads and pushing the limits, remove the magazine before shooting. A case blowing out into the empty mag well still stings, but is generally harmless, because it can vent freely.

G36.. .45 ACP, top end reload, but not ridiculous.. Have shot that recipe many times.
Got it torn down, and no cracks that I can see in the frame, but I guess I should send it in.

I only use military 45 brass, but my reloads are calc'd right at 21K psi. I have never gotten a bulge in the brass.
Probably a good idea to get some 45 Super brass, or at least something a little heavier like milsurp, or Starline.

Send it in. They'll take care of it.
Likely a weak spot in the brass.
Last round in the magazine, or next to last?

First one up eliminates bullet slippage back into the case. Weak spot in the brass over the unsupported area of the chamber. That's my guess. Likely a hairline crack in the brass. Ouch.

W. Bill Just sayin' you're FOS. The "plastic" parts have nothing to do with an unsupported chamber or brass failure. Have a catastrophic brass failure like that in a 1911 or BHP and see what the results are. They'll be a lot more destructive to the pistol and the shooter than that one was.

case took a big chit and I'm betting a beer it feeds and shoots right now, fugged up trigger and mag release included.
But I'm going to send it in anyway, and see what it costs. I bet another beer it's under $100.
I'm not getting rid of the squirt guns, no yet.

Sorry guys but with a 1911, even an aluminum one, when a case blows all you usually get is a set of cracked grips...and the last time it happened to me the grips didn't even go.
In 35 years of shooting 1911s in .38 Super I've had about 6 blowouts. Clean gun, clean magazine and keep shooting...
Glad you are all right Rancho...

That's on the warm side & is a near max load for PP, but probably not a load issue, per se'; probably just a weak case head & bad luck. I use 6.8 of PP with that bullet. Glad you still have all your digits. MM

Travis ...my post was more directed to 4ager's comments about the 1911. That said, look at the gun...mag is blown, there is no more magazine catch and the trigger is in pieces. Anytime there is that much damage to a Glock from a kaboom there is a good chance that the frame has been compromised. Bob

RJM,
Had the exact same thing happen with a G20 10mm ka-boom. No frame damage whatsoever, as verified by GlockUSA. Repair was under $100, and that included them replacing all the springs.

I double charged An aluminum frame 1911, 45acp and blew the case, except for cracked grips the gun and magazine were fine. I was amazed, as I have seen the Glock kaboom pic's and in my book the 1911 is much stouter, even the aluminum frame version. That being being said I was glad to be wearing leather gloves at the time.

Any chance you double charged the case? I don't load power pistol so it may not be possible to get a double charge in a case.
Single stage or progressive? Powder cop die?
I worry about doing this since my boys shoot my reloads.

Glad Rancho is not hurt badly, and hope he heals completely. But bullet setback can occur the first time it feeds into the chamber. If the expander plug is bigger than about .447", the bullets may not be tight enough in the case. And yes, I have done adventurous loads, too...
