Wondering what anyone might have heard about the health of the herd? Are the ticks still an issue?

Imagine your grave on a windy winter night. You've been dead for 70 years.
It's been 50 since a visitor last paused at your tombstone.....
Now explain why you're in a pissy mood today.

The herd has been hit pretty hard the last couple years due to ticks. Permits for this year's hunt were cut quite a bit. The lottery is next weekend (June 13-14), so results should be available shortly after that.

There's a cow with a couple of calves I saw last week while I was out bush whacking for brookies. They looked really healthy, a good sign to see.

I saw 14 yesterday morning while muskie fishing.

All looked pretty good. One giant cow and a few small bulls.

No such luck for me.

Pard saw over twenty this weekend. Not a single deer. No luck in the draw....

I drew a September bull permit for WMD 3. Been applying since 88. Any advice from fire members familiar with the area is certainly welcome. Thanks; Mike

In VT or Maine? I don't think you could see twenty in a year in VT anymore so you must be talking Maine.

Yuppir. Vee Tee is a wasteland now.. Shame too. I could take a drive on any given night and find something. They just up left... Glad I got mine when I did....

Spent years bitching about them taking over all the swampy crap I hunted. Now there is not a glimpse of the heavy browse they used show..

I was fortunate enough to get two in VT. And through the years I saw a lot more. But those days are over.

Congrats Klondike Mike! My advice in Maine or VT is to hunt as close to Canada as you can! There seem to be more moose farther north. Oh, and one more piece of advice - try calling and pray for lovesick stupid moose.

Thanks for the advice. WMD#3 in Maine has Canada on the north and east sides so I can't get much closer. I got my soup can and shoestring call all ready. Lovesick moose or not is OK with me as long as they're stupid I'm good. Mike

Thanks Josh. I'm getting psyched. I'd still like to hear from some members from the area. Mike

I just swapped for a Sept Bull tag in zone 4. Can you tell me who you used for a guide? I don't know much about this zone.

Give Rick a ping. He knows the area and moose hunting. Three hunters in camp took three bulls in two days in 2014.

Thanks Josh. Ross lake was booked up in 2 days this year. I booked a hunt with Maine Guided Hunts Steve Beckwith. He is the guy who runs the moose swap permit site online. I can't wait..
