I was told that there were 55? of these made and given to stockholders, none were sold to public. Can anyone give me some info and value of one of these?

Thanks!

Not sure as to value but I would guess there were more than 55 of them made since I've run across 2 in the last 5 years in gunshops. I think I recall seeing them in my 1940 something stoeger catalog but I'm not sure and I can't check right now.

Neat guns nonetheless even though they aren't real practical for much. Should make a good squirrel shooter.

A quick google check shows one for sale on Gunbroker for $1900 and a couple for around $1500 on Armslist and Gunsamerica.

The classic Model 410

In 1929, Marlin took their standard Model 1883 lever action rifle and reworked it as a shotgun. To do this they had to lengthen the loading port, modify the tubular magazine, and replace the .45 caliber rifled barrel with a 26-inch smoothbore cylinder choked shotgun tube.

This allowed the gun to hold five shots of .410 gauge. Like most shotguns of its era, it was only given a gold bead front sight and no rear.

A rare gun, it wasn't widely marketed although its list price was just $30. Instead was given away free to stock buyers at a rate of one new gun for every four shares of Marlin Preferred Stock. Now these shares were $25 a pop at the time, which, adjusted for inflation, would translate to about $1400 in 2014 dollars.

The thing is, when you remember 1929 from your high school U.S. History class, you recall that it was the same year as the great Wall Street crash, which quickly turned into the Great Depression. With that in mind, it is easy to see why these guns were out of production by 1934, with Brophy estimating that under 10,000 were made.

Iv also seen 2-3 in the last 4-5 years, had a chance to buy one for 500 bucks, thought it over went back 3 hrs later to buy it and was of course it was gone! They were made for stock holders and dealers that so a high # of marlin guns.

I dont know how many were made but i have one with the 22" barrel the more rare one ,and they were made from the 1893 rifle receiver ,not 1883 and no 1893's were made in 45 cal, they were chambered for the 2 1/2" shells , they were given to buyers of $100 in stocks or they could choose the Marlin model 49 pump shotgun.I have one of those also. The people who got the 410 got the better deal !!! grin grin

Good catch Loggah. I cut & pasted it from another website and read right over that "1883". I was mainly lookin for how many they made. Since even the bit about the .45 caliber barrel is wrong too, ya can't put much faith in how many he says were made either!

A couple years ago I saw a new production one in a gunshop for about the same price 45/70s were going for at the time. Just looked like any other 1895. Was pretty neat, but I don't know how useful it would have been. I didn't know they were so scarce.

I chase quail with mine, and shoot a little skeet too. Just for fun, not trying to win the Olympic trials.
