In the woods this morning just after daybreak and I never saw a squirrel until around 0900. They started to move and i killed four within 20 min all head shots, four shots and four squirrel . I was using my Kimber Model 82 LH with CCI Mini-Mag HP's. I could have killed a fifth and it was a big red fox squirrel with a white head and black nose, but since i already had four grays and i knew my buddy wouldn't eat the Fox Squirrel, so I just watched him for a while through the scope and let him go. Beautiful Morning in the Squirrel woods. Squirrel Hunting, it just doesn't get any better.

Sounds like fun.. Didn't know there were any squirrel seasons that opened in June.. A reason your pal wouldn't eat fox squirrel??
Had a mess of W. Va. fox squirrel and gravy.. It was very good..

Makes sense... After we got the fox squirrels, my pal cooked them in a pressure cooker til the meat came off the bones, then fried it.. IT was a good meal..

Personally i believe all squirrels should visit the pressure cooker before being rolled in flour and pepper and them fried.

Congrats on the gray squirrels! I have to wait until Aug. 15th. Most of the squirrels I get, here in NW Indiana, are fox squirrels. The old ones do go to the pressure cooker, however, the younger ones I just boil, until I can stick a fork in them, then they get fried.

I'm jealous. I can't hunt 'em til October. Then again, it's already hotter than hell and I'm sure they're full of wolves anyway but squirrel hunting is the most fun you can have without being nekkid....

You know, I've been squirrel hunting for close to 50 yrs., and I don't think I ever found larvae/bots/wolves in any squirrel, and our season always starts Aug. 15th.

I have found them often in both Squirrels and Rabbits but mostly in the fall and not the spring season .

Yeah, they prolly ain't even here in April but after the oppressive heat we have here in piedmont NC and midlands SC all squirrels and rabbits bear warbles. No sense hunting them till after first heavy frost clears 'em out. We wait till January after deer season and have 8 great weekends for us workers and 60 days for the retirees to enjoy.

I guess we get your share of them because ours are loaded with them in hot weather. I don't bother shooting them until after it frosts.

Being a left-hander I sure envy your gun collection. It seems that over the last few years you have posted a picture of just about every left-handed gun in existence.

I do have a bunch of Left Hand Rifle and Shotguns. Life is to short to hunt with a right hand firearm when you are left handed,

What kind of lefty shotguns do you hunt with? I shoot lefty rifles, but never had a lefty shotgun unless you count the Ithaca or break opens.

You must hunt birds more than I.

I think I've got three shotguns: SxS Stevens 20, an ancient mossberg aka the rabbit hammer, and a H&R single 20.

Wish I still had the Ithaca.

I used to really be into bird hunting but not as much since the grouse population has been down the last couple of years around here.
