Ive nearly amassed all the components necessary for the trip to my gunsmith to have my 1-8 twist 243 put together. Trying to be prepared, I want to order at least 200 pieces of brass. I've worked with lapua before and it's damn fine but I ain't scared of sorting winchester flavor and save some coin. Thoughts?

I don't consider brass properly broken in until it's been fired once. Anneal, form, trim, and it's usually at least as good as any new brand you can buy. Try Brassman Brass.

I just ordered a couple boxes of Hornady to give them a whirl. I'm sort of in the same boat as you, but I doubt you're going to be able to beat the Lapua brass. Might be worth the $200 investment. I think all components are going to be a little scarce for the next _______ months, and when they're back in stock they'll cost more.

I am still running 50 cases of Nosler .243 brass I bought several years ago. It has been some tough stuff, requires very little trimming (which is a minor miracle with the .243).

P.S. I love the specs on your build, that is gonna be a very nice pea-shooter. and you've got exactly the right LOP on the McMillan too!

Lapua. You've built a great gun. Why [bleep] with [bleep] brass?

Raw wisdom. Yet I did skimp on the trigger, opting for the timney over the Jewell.

I think I'll like the wider trigger shoe of the timney. At least that was the thought.

I bought 300 pcs of Lapua 243 brass several years ago and was not impressed. I had case necks split on about 25% of it. The rifle was a custom built rig with a hart barrel and everything was done right.
You could look at the brass and see which ones were going to split before you shot. I ran about 40 or 50 rounds thru the gun and GAVE the brass away. I went to Winchester and never looked back. I never had a problem with Winchester brass (or Fed) out of that gun.
That is the last time I fell for the Lapua hype. I can take my time , hand sort trim etc and feel I have just as good or better than spending 3 to 4 times as much.
this is just my $.02 worth, but you did ask for opinions.

I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....
