Hello all, I am considering a pro hunter encore in 30-06 with its 28" barrel and would like to see the difference in fps in 28". I am sure its published somewhere, but I haven't found it. Any help? thanks Patrick

Heres what Quickload thinks with a medium warm 180 grain load:
22" 2733
24" 2789
26" 2839
28" 2882
As a sidenote...I have an '06 and a 300 win mag. Being a reloader I can easily take the 300 win mag down to a 30-06 with charges like the 30-06 uses. But I also have the performance of the 300 win mag if I want to go out west or up to alaska. If you are looking for performance versatility think about a 300wsm or 300 win?? If I had to sell one or the other the decision would quickly be for me to get rid of my '06.

good info. thanks, I have been thinking the same way, easier to load down then the other way around. Thank you digging up the 28" info for me, I really thought there might be a little more difference. Patrick

IME, anyone wanting to predict the velocity of anything would do well to stick with books, charts or PC programs and avoid the truth of chronographs. Measured speeds vs. therotical speeds tend to be quite disapointing!

Diminishing returns...each cartridge has them. They will only go so fast, no matter what.

Exactly why I will soon be hunting with a 7 Dakota. I can tone it down to 280 Remington or hit the gas to chase mountain sheep at long ranges. It is not a matter of velocity because sheep are easy to kill. It is the laser beam trajectory I prefer.

I load 63 grains of RL 22 for a buddies' 30-06 22" barrel and it'll push 165's to 3078 fps average from a Remington 700.

I truly hope that you have a liability waiver in writing from your buddy!
