fairly new to reloading so im asking for some opinions...i have a couple 264 win mags and target animals will be deer/antelope/predator/bear...the twist rate in my rifle is 1:9, what bullets would you choose and what weight given twist rate
would like to achieve at least 3150 fps

I will be testing the 130 gr VLD made by JLK which have a BC of .620 hoping to get in the 3500 fps range with my 30" Shilen barrel 6 grove 1 in 8 twist. The big bullet I want to try is the Woodleigh 160 gr PPSN which should be able to reach 3000fps or more as the Hornady 160gr round nose shows 2861fps in the hodgdon on line data charts. the pointed soft point should have better bc as the hornady has a .283 bc and the woodleigh has a .509 bc.

My 6.5-06AI 26" has 1:8" for 140-160. The OP's question made me wonder what the early 264WMs were twisted. Anyhow, with 1:9, is the sweet spot 120-140? And, if so, you might consider taking dangerous game off the list.....

Woodleigh claims the 160 gr PPSN is a good moose round and when you run the ballistics calculator using the same fps for the hornady and woodleigh the woodleigh has around 800 more ft lbs of energy at 500 yards than the hornady and about 300 ft lbs more at 100 yrds.

My 264 likes 125gr Partitions at 3300. Great open country deer load!

I know personally that a 140 grain Nosler will do a number on a big mulie. For me I find what shoots well in my rifle and go with it. At the ranges the 264 can shoot, the shooter and long range accuracy is as important as the pill.

130 Accubonds at 3300 fps would work nicely and they are dependable on big game.

I have had very good results with both 125 and 140 Nosler partitions. I am working on good loads for 130 TSX and Hornady Interbonds.

Partitions and Barnes for bear, 130 AB would be my go to for all else. They'd do for bear more than likely, but the first 2 might have an edge if you hit heavy bone.

120 TTSX might be a death ray in a 264, on all game.....

Nosler recently released the 140gr AB.
That's where I would start.

If the twist would allow I'd be all over the 140 Berger. If not, then I'd give the 130 Berg a serious go and or the 120 Berg.

When my 257 Wby dies it will be re-barreled to .264 Win Mag with the sole purpose of running the 130gr Scirocco (.571 b.c.). At 3300fps it will be magic for all North American hoofed animals.........

I asked Mule Deer what would be a good bullet for deer sized animals, he suggested the 130 grain Nosler Accubond. I got a box, then loaded some up. I couldn't find any more available, went to a gun show and found 8 boxes of 85 grain hollow points. My 264 is now a varmint rifle. I will shoot it more than I would at deer, so I have another useful rifle instead of a once a year gun...

What powder are you using behind the 85gr hp. I load H4831 behind 85gr hp, 95gr Vmax, 100gr hp, 100gr ballistic tip and 130 gr vld.
