Since it is blizzarding outside today, I am going thru my reloading supplies.
I found two stashes of 30 cal., 180 gr bullets stuffed on a back shelf.

Two boxes are Norma, spitzer, hollow point with a flat base, are in red boxes with black lettering. No.676513.

Four boxes of Speer, spitzer, sp flat base. No. 2053.
Probably not as old as the Normas.

Any one recall how these worked on big game, or how well they shoot?

Thinking about loading some up with H4350.

I also found an 8 lb jug or H4895 and about 15 lbs of W231.

The Speers are 180 gr Hot-Cor SPs, they should work well on anything from mice to elk out of a .308, '06, or 300 Win Mag or similar cartridges.

I missed out on those 180 hollow points, but did shoot up a bunch of 150 hollow points..they were very good bullets as I remember..

Saddlesore, isn't amazing what one finds in the reloading room??? I have lived in this house for 30 years..some stuff I find and am grateful for relocating it, other stuff I wonder where and when did I buy this stuff!!!! Still a great find..

15 pounds of W231??? I used to shoot lots of that stuff in 38 Spl and 9mm Luger. I think my target load in the 38 was 2.3 grains or 3000 rounds per pound.

Either one of the 4350's and those Speer 180s will kill the heck out of pig through moose and even some bigger bears. A load that worked wel in my 30-06 was 55.5 grains of IMR4350 with the 180. Killed several moose with that one. Dropped at the shot mostly.

I am glad to know I am not the only packrat.

That is the exact same load I used in my .38 in the days when I shot handgun.

A few years back, a close friend's dad of mine died.He asked me to sell all his reloading stuff. He delivered a full size pickup bed, piled to the top of the topper of powder,bullets, primers, etc. I sold most of it,but kept a few things. I think this is where the bullets came form as I also found a box of Hornady 30 cal 165gr.
I kept two 8 lb jugs of the W231 and I am slowly working thru it,but a pound goes along way of course.

Yesterday, I trimmed 200 rounds of .06 brass and will turn the necks this week.
I plan to work up a load for each of those 180's. I normally shoot 220 gr RN for elk ,but do load some 180 grain Game Kings for any distance shooting. Those are getting low in supply,so I might as well use these Speers and Normas.

Don't really need them as I probably have enough to last me the rest of my life time. I usually shoot 3 to check the zero and one to kill an elk every year.
