Since the general drought of LR primers is still ongoing a friend has decided to try SR primers in his 308 using Starline small rifle cases. Is there any difference in load development going from LR to SR?

Work up the load as you would with any other primer.

All else staying the same it should technically be safer to use SR primers in a LR load than the other way around for two possible reasons. I would expect a LR primer to have more priming mixture and therefore hotter than a SR primer. I consider both more than sufficiently powerful in a SA case, so mixture amounts don't bother me. Also surface area is less on a SR primer and therefore harder to blow out of the pocket. I tend to use modest 308 Win loads. Still in the data range, but usually towards the lighter side. I want a minimum load that's still in the data range that gives me the best accuracy.
I've had great success switching to Peterson 308 win brass with SR pockets. It's a great idea that works very well. In one of my rifles this combo has produced the best accuracy to date

Depending on the firing pin diameter and fit, SRPs can be easier to blank than LRPs in the .308 in my experience.
Too close for irons, switching to scope...

Glad some are finding LR primers. It is a rarity here.
Thanks for the advice from all.

Have not tried them in .308 but have in 6.5CM. Shoot to the same poi with the same load for me. Do use Mag primers though. I had problems with std primers piercing where the mag primers were fine all else being equal.
