Thought I saw someone post loads for 223Rem with 400 primers but cannot find it. Nosler book lists the 223Rem with 40 and 50 gr BT with Rem 71/2 primers. Since I have some CCI 400 on hand I am trying to find a starting/max load for 223Rem 40BT and 50BT with CCI 400 primers. Anyone got any? Thanks.

Just use the load data using the Rem primer and load away using the CCI400.

Just start at book minimum and be happy. If you are a short way from a range, I would first load up a ladder's worth at .5 increments or possibly .3 grains. Go bang until you see pressure signals or good numbers on your chrono. Usually, switching primers isn't much of an issue, but there is always a first time. That said, I have had very very good results with CCI 400s in a 223. So just as long as you stay between the lines on what the books says, you should have a good outcome.

I thought I had read that using Rem Primers in a AR might cause some slam shots to go off due to the thin caps remington uses compared to thicker CCI primers. just a thought

All I've ever used has been CCI 400s in my 223s. Not one issue

Actually the Remington 7 1/2 is a bench rest primer and has a harder cup than the CCI400. You would have to go to the CCI BR4 to be comparable to the 7 1/2. Substituting primers is not a big deal unless you plan to start at maximum.

Thanks for all for the tips. I figured I can subsitute primers for another but should start low and not at the highest charge in the book when moving to diff primers. I just had a box of CCI 400 and wanted to try that.

You'll like the 400s. I only wish I'd tried them sooner.

One of my all time favorite loads is a 400 under 25.5-26g of benchmark, depending on the lot, and a 50g vmax. Should work with a 50g NBT as well. This load replaced my old standby of 26g h335 and a 450 under a 50g bullet.
