I am looking at a Leupold VX3 4.5x14x50mm LongRange. Illuminated Reticle. I can't decide on what reticle, fine duplex or german #4 dot? Also what ring height will I need? Medium or high? I will be using it for coyote hunting. Thanks for your help. Tom

Varmint Hunter Reticle is my favorite with the Mil Dot second. Of the two you listed the Fine Duplex would be my choice.
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

You might want to keep in mind that medium duplex reticle on the 4.5-14X Leupolds are thinner/finer than the same reticles on the less powerful variables. If you are going with the illuminated reticle scopes, then I'd go for a Mil-Dot. I like the Varmit Hunter, but suspect it's a bit too fine for bad light if one needs to use the markings for hold off/hold over. E
