Ok, never had a scope over 14X but wanting to buy one for an upcoming Coues Deer hunt where shots may stretch to 700 yards.
What features do I want? Thinking SF over AO but turrets for sure.
Do I want Mil-Dots and mil clicks?

What scope would you recommend?

Help me out here guys, I'm in uncharted waters!

I agree with Jordan. Just mounted the HS LR and love it. Contact Doug @ cameraland and he will set you up.

I was looking at the HS LR and it does seem to fit the bill.

The VX-3 4.5-14x40 SF CDS looks promising too.
Yes, I can get it for $600 too.

I've never used one but Midway has a Vortex rifle scope that is mil/mil with a 44mm obj. I believe its a 15x... Oh and $500...

5-15x44 Vortex Midway Exclusive

May be a little heavier than what you're looking for but its packed full of great options.

nsaqam,

I have both SF and AO. For convenience I prefer the SF. But for ease of getting a fine adjustment I prefer the AO. Most likely you will have plenty of time if you need to adjust the parallax so if everything is equal I would go with the AO. when I hunt the woods I set my scopes on about 150 and forget them; unless I find something with the binocs out there and then I get to play with my toy.

Make sure you buy for you. My big game scope is a 5-25X and my varmint scope is a 4 1/2-30x. I am impressed with them so it doesn't make any difference if others are or not.

Edited to add: If I was getting another it would be the 6-24X between the two you mentioned. You can always turn the 6-24X down but you can not turn the 4-16X above 16X. Make sure you check the high end of the magnification at some kind of detail a long way away. I already made a mistake of purchasing something that was not clear on the top magnification setting.

I was just looking at that scope and it does look interesting.

I have the Midway Viper HS on my 308. I like it very much. i was looking at the PST, but I don't need illumination, and mil dots work just fine for my purposes. So far, I have been very happy with it.

6.5-20x50mm fullfield II with ballistic mil-dot reticle, again barely a ring mark if any, $330 delivered

1 - 8-32x44mm Signature Select, fine plex reticle, perfect shape, like new, sunshade included. $410 delivered

I would be hard pressed not to buy one of these.

Thanks guys.

That Zeiss is certainly tempting but I just can't bring myself to buy a scope with a 50mm+ objective.

I'm thinking the Vortex Viper HS 4-16x44 LR is the scope I'm going to buy.

Still open to suggestions however.

I gave the Vortex 4-16x44 HS LR a thorough testing for a magazine review, and it is indeed a fine scope. Right now mine's on my very accurate 7mm SAUM, because it worked so well during the tests.
