I have a chance to take my son to Wyoming in a few weeks before he goes into the Army on Jan. 9th and wondering if any one has any contacts or knows of a good place to go in unit 26 ( just north west of Douglas)? I have taken my son twice to Idaho for elk and muledeer, but he has always wanted to hunt antelope. So I can think of no better time than now to take him out there before he serves our country. I have a contact from a friend that has hunted out there several times with a rancher that has 30,000 acres and charges about $275 tresspass fee. Trouble is, can't get a hold of him after about 5 days of trying. I have found one walk in area with about 1,100 acres, but that's not much land to count on after the 915 mile drive and several hundred dollars in expenses. Thanks in advance for any leads that could be sent my way.

Give this link a try. Scroll down to the Glenrock warden district. It has a list of landowners, in unit 26, with their phone numbers. I'd start calling, until you hit one you like.

I hunted with (Delyea, Gordon (307)-358-2189) from the Douglas site given above. The hunt was last year and I had no complaints with this ranch. This was my first antelope hunt. I can tell ya part of 26 was burned last year... not sure how this would effect hunting at this time though. The ranch I mention was in the burn area. Actually my doe was shot on burnt ground.

The Game and Fish have a landowner list with many names of people who will allow trespass for antelope hunting. I have never used it, but I have the list on my desk. There are 11 names on the list for area 26. I would be that something reasonable could be found there. If you have trouble getting the list fromt he game and fish, shoot me a pm and I can get you some contact info off of my list.

Thanks for all of the input. So far, everyone is full up. Getting late tonight, but will work my way through the entire list. Thanks again and if I find any thing, I will be sure and post it in case anyone else is looking this late.

270wsmnutt,
That walk in area you are looking at of 1100 acres is attached to some federal land making a total of 6 sections available. This makes over 3800 acres available in just that spot. The BLM maps will show all of the public ground. Area 26 was enlarged in the past few years, not sure exctly when I haven't been hunting much past few years, 26 is now what used to be areas 26 and 28. There is not as much public ground in 26 as some other areas but I still think you and your son can get goats even if all the private land is full.

Thanks for the info, was about to give up. I hate that every state's web site is set up different and some are hard to navigate. I wish there would be a standard format for all of them to follow. I will check out the BLM maps as I would rather hunt for free, since tags and gas are pretty costly now.

Looks like there is a good sized chunk of Thunder Basin National Grassland in Unit 26. As far as I know there are no restrictions on antelope hunting there, anybody know for sure?

Must it be a buck hunt? If not doe tags are $34 for a non-resident.

Has to be a buck. Not going 915 + miles and several hunred dollars for a doe. My son really wants to kill a nice buck and the more I look into unit 26, the better it looks for public use land.

I understand. If you want a good buck in the future look at the SW corner of the state. For now area 26 will work. Not familiar with that area.
