I wrote this in a email to some friends and thought i would share.
let me tell you another little story.
a couple of days ago i went to a social security office near scottsdale, for sure an upscale area of the greater phoenix valley. Checking on my social security setup.
Odd, not to many old people in the lobby, that had to pass the armed guard, odd in itself to me, but a lobby full of middle aged or younger people almost all minorities, dragging multiple kids. I wondered what they would be doing in there. Silly me. I brought home a brochure on the "snap" program, which is what we now call the federal food stamp program.
Not to read the whole thing, but I thought you would enjoy one section and i will quote in its entirety.
"I AM NOT A U.S. CITIZEN. CAN I GET SNAP BENEFITS? CAN MY CHILREN?
If you are not eligible due to immigration status, your legal immigrant or citizen children may still qualify. You do not have to provide immigration information about yourself when you apply for your legal immigrant or citizen children."
That's in addition to free medical care by the way.
