MikeNZ posted this apparently recent pic of an NZ red deer. It got me thinking. NZ, of course, is in the southern hemisphere so their seasons are the reverse of North America. If you took an American deer or elk to somewhere in the southern hemisphere, how long would it take for it to reverse it's inner clock so it would develop antlers and rut in the southern autumn instead of the northern autumn? It's triggered by decreasing day length, but would it grow 2 sets of antlers in 1 year if it went through the decreasing day length sequence twice in 1 year?
