Are these rounds the same? I was wanting to rebarrel my 30-06 for a 338-06 A-Square and a guy had a 24" Douglas barrel for me but its a 338/06. If they aren't the same can this barrel be rechambered to the 338-06 A Square?

Thanks guys for the help.

Agree with muygrande1. I have been shooting one for 12 years. About the most balanced round for big game there is IMO.

Another in agreement here. I was under the impression that when A-Square adopted the round they didn't change anything except the name.

I'm not sure why, but I've always had a thing for it (and the 333OKH that inspired it). Maybe one day I'll actually put one together.

Huntin' season yet?

The #4 Nosler manual calls it the .338-06. The #5 Nosler manual calls it the .338-06 A-Square. The drawings and dimensions are identical.

Thoroughly enjoying Alaska since 2001.

Douglas barrels are probably okay. I do not have any experience with them.

On my 338-06, I have a #3 Shillen cut at 23 inches. It is screwed on a 700 action. McM stock, 2.5x8 Leupold and Talley rings. Shoots great.
Great round.

Here's some recent banter about Douglas, sounds like they are good for the money, but there is better if you want to go up to PacNor.

Hope it helps.

I have a Shaw 2.5 contour, 24", good shooter too. Those big holes always make it look bigger than MOA.

A Square was the first company to sell it commercially and "legitimize" the round. They did not mess with the success of the former wildcat.
