I am in the process of refinishing the stock on my CZ 550 FS. I stripped off the old Gorilla Snot finish and did some initial sanding. I set it aside for a couple of hours and this is what I came back to. It appears to be leaking some kind of oil or fluid from the inside out. I was planning on finishing this with several coats of Tung Oil, but this bleeding has me a bit concerned. What do you think this is, and more important do you think it will affect the Tung Oil finish?

The oil needs to be leached out, or it will repel the later finish. I use acetone - soak it, blot it, resoak it, etc, then let it dry. Repeat as required. MinWax stain/sealer, in the color of your choice, will even out any inconsistancies, prior to finishing.
BTW - I no longer have to sand any stocks I refinish, unless they're scratched, etc, because I use Homer Formby's Furniture Refinisher liquid stripper (from WallyWorld) - even in the checkering. Formby's takes everything off the wood, by simply wiping in on with a steel wool pad.

Tri-clor (dry cleaning fluid) mixed into a paste w/ whiting (calcium carbonate powder). Brownells sells both. Do it right. I have resurrected many military stocks with this process. Don

Never had much luck with the whiting, but many coats of liberal applications of acetone works. You will only get the oil out about 1/8-3/16 deep out, but get it coated with out letting it set around a week and you will be ok. Another resaon to store wooden stocked guns, muzzle down

Thanks, I give the Acetone a try.
