Hey guys, quick question.
I bought a Rem 660 with the cheap plastic bottom part (same as a 600) and I just got in a ADL style stock for it. I bought the 700 ADL trigger guard, but what guard screw do I need for the guard hole closest to the forend and what does it screw into??? It looks like the bolt is directly above the hole.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Mike

It is very doable, but takes a little messing around to get it right...
The front screw does nothing more than hold the trigger guard on. The model Seven has the exact same issue when converted to a blind magazine and I have done a lot more of them. One option is to glass bed a nut into the stock and use a very short screw to hold the trigger guard on. I have also used a thin piece of spring steel punched and then threaded with a self-tapping screw. The screw must be cut off short in use. Finer threads are available with the nut option so that is the way to go, IMO.
Make sure you lube the screw up well before glassing it in place.

Glass bed a nut into the stock....... BRILLIANT!!!
I will give that a try. Oddly enough, I am ordering the same ADL style stock for a M7 next. I forgot they have the same size receiver.
Thanks a lot, Mike

Could always fill the hole and epoxy guard into stock.
Yup.

While certainly an option you still need to find a way to fill the forward trigger guard screw hole after epoxying the guard in place...

Grind a screw down and epoxy that in place. Or just fill the hole with epoxy and have it coated (option I went with)
Like Sitka said...couple ways to do it. The bedding a nut into the stock is a good one and wish I had thought of that.
Yup.

You can also order an ADL guard from Hollands that has no front screw hole. Then have a smith enlarge the threaded hole in the action's tang to accept a standard 700 rear screw. Cut a 700 screw to the right length and everything looks clean. I have all my parts together to do the same thing, using an ADL Mcmillan and a 660, but I've got to scrounge up some dough for a barrel install.
Now with even more aplomb
