I would like to find one in near new condition as I just acquired one that someone had screwed a sling swivel stud in. So, got one?

About 1948 or so Winchester made a small change in the stock. Earlier stocks will not fit. Post 64 do not fit well so something from the 50's is what you need.

i didn't think post 64 would work. It's sad that someone made that hole as this old gun is perfect. I know it has been shot but very few times.

Not many post 64 will fit. Some will work but not fit. Find one made for a 50's gun with a steel butt plate.

With a little work and some time you could cut a plug for the hole and almost make it invisable. It would be a stock repair, but at least it's the stock that came with the gun.
