I am interested in opinions regarding the pros/cons of the vintage steel Lyman and Redfield receiver sights on the Model 94/64 Winchester. I have come in possession of a nice old Model 64 Winchester and would like to mount a receiver sight.
The Lyman and Redfield sights look pretty similar in appearance. Is there any meaningful difference in their function? This is a rifle I do intend to hunt with.
Thanks for any help, Wayne E.

Elmer, I have a vintage Redfield reciver peep on my 1936 mfg. Win 94. I like it better than the Lyman I have on my Win 64. Some guys are complaining about the newer Lyman sights beeing made of aluminum now. I have several of these also, and haven't had any problems. Virgil B.

Virgil, thanks for the response.
Is there any particular reason why you prefer the Redfield over the Lyman? Just curious, as I have no experience with either.

Wayne, I like the adjustment knobs better on the Redfield. You need to look at both to decide for yourself. Just my preferences. Virgil B.

One thing I have found with receiver sights is that eventually they will leave a mark in the blue on the side of your receiver. Just from firing and carrying the two surfaces will rub.
I put a piece of black electric tape on the rear of the base where it contacts the receiver before screwing it on. Trim it with a razor, you'll never know it's there and should you ever decide to take the sight off the gun (selling them separately) there'll be no telltale mark.
