I figure if anybody knows anything about SIGG, it's going to be the backpacker guys.

My Pre-China Thermos Nissan needs to be retired. I want to avoid buying a new one because they're now made in China.

I do a little internet search, and discover the Swiss Watch of thermos bottles: SIGG. Hot damn, I think. Who's going to make a better thermos bottle than the Swiss?

But, no... Every store in the US and Canada is sold out. None can be ordered. SIGG water bottles are everywhere, but not a thermos to be had.

A Google search on "why" comes up with nada. An e-mail to SIGG USA remains unanswered.

I am disappointed. I know the aluminum water bottles once had a liner with PBA and that's been fixed, but the thermoses were stainless steel. So WTF? Anybody know?

I'd just look for a Nissan thermos.

I should have said I'd look for a used one on ebay.

You know, a lot of climbers used to use a thermos but most just use a Ti water bottle for hot drinks and make a cozy for it out of reflectix.

I just googled on "Sigg thermos" and came up with several options to buy in the first few results lines. I even went into one online store and hit "add to cart" to be sure that it was available. It seems to have worked.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Sigg was made in China, too.

bluffview:

I finally got some replies from a woman named Amy with SIGG USA corporate.

First, she says the vacuum bottles aren't sold directly thru SIGG USA. I tell her the internet retailers I located have them listed as "out of stock" or "unavailable."

Eventually, she figures out that SIGG USA does sell vacuum bottles directly, and gives me a link to "SIGG Steel Works." But, so sorry, they no longer have the .38 L bottles "in inventory." I go to the link, and they no longer have the 0.5 L bottles in inventory, either. In fact, they only have two colors of the 1.0 L bottles in inventory.

So I write back and tell her I know what her game is. They're reorganizing, phasing out that line, and they plan on introducing a new line sometime in the future. That's why internet retailers are either out of stock, or running out.

I also told her that if SIGG introduces a new line and they're made in China, I'm not buying.

This is no longer about me buying a new vacuum bottle for my damn afternoon coffee. This is about international trade war! grin

BTW, that Zojirushi Tuff Slim you have... I see that's available thru REI. Glad to know it's not made in China, but would you be so kind as to look at the bottom and tell me where it was made?

Thanks.

Thanks. I have a great deal of respect for Japanese quality, especially when it comes to steel products.
