After looking for several months, I found an S&W M36 ( No dash number )
in near perfect condition. Also got the 2 piece blue box. The S/N is J742xxx .
Can someone tell me the date of manufacture ?
Thank You

Thanks 41magfan

Wanted to put a few rounds thru my M36. Got a box of
Rem/UMC 158 gr. 38 special ammo. It was $14.00 for
50 rds per box. Fired the little 5-shot handgun both
single action and double action. Function was perfect.
Trigger pull seemed perfect. smile

I know the advantage of having a semi-auto handgun
and not trying to start a CF war. But so far I love having
this little revolver.

Any comments on small revolvers ?

I have an as new nickle plated M36 in the box that I bought for $100.00. I really like it. I don't like semi-auto handguns.

Anyone have a blue book price chart for the M36 ?
I paid a little more than $100 for mine.

I have a new Model 36 blue in the box purchased in the late 70's and a like new Nickle Model 36, but not sure of the manufactures date would have to look it up.

I have one in the same serial number range as your gun - I paid about $135 for it new in 1979. Market price varies around the country but a like new example of a J-series serial number in my neck of the woods could bring $350 or more.

When I was a young COP back then, I carried and shot the piss out of it and it still shoots and looks like new. (Happich's Simichrome Polish and S&W's Nickel plating make good friends....)

I didn't feed it many +P's so it's still plenty tight.

Note: These older guns tend to shoot POA with a 158 gr bullet.
