https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog...d+Smith+&+Wesson+629+Carry+Comp+RAREAt that price, I'll never see one at this house, either, but it sure looks like a fun gun. I'd still rather carry an old LWT .45 Commander, but this one would do, I suppose.

Rare modern S&W's can bring big bucks, but $4k for that one is silly.

I wouldn't trade my 4 inch 629 for it.

Interesting piece for sure. While helping a friend with an estate, I came across a Colt Combat Cobra exactly like this one except the box was pristine and the pistol hadn't even been taken out since purchase. Couldn't believe what prices were for this thing: http://www.gunbroker.com/item/613849437

That's not the one I came across, just a pic for reference. The one I came across was all original and sold for a bit north of the asking price in the link I posted. In fact, there were several pieces in the collection that sold for quite a bit north of that figure. It was really cool getting to see some rare pieces. Wouldn't pay that myself, but cool to see nonetheless.

Lew Horton's used to have some great pistols made that they marketed. I drove by their place one day and wanted to stop but had to be somewhere else. They probably didn't let anyone in, though. I never saw a single one of their specials for sale in a shop. Maybe they were gone before they ever hit the market.

That's a Hail Mary being thrown to a S&W collector. No way it's worth even half that IMO.

Friend of mine has one...bought it for a CC piece after experimenting with a Model 22 TR but could not get reliable expansion with any of the available .44 Special rounds.. He ended up using the Speer 200 Short Barrel Load and the Remington 240 SJHP.
He only carried it for a few months before going back to a semi...

A cast bullet with the right mix and a big hole expands quite nicely.
I guess your friend isn't a handloader.

the guy listing that for sale lives in chandler, az. i believe. he is a ffl and seems to have a connection with davidson's or ruger, as he moves a lot of rugers, in particular the new introduction ones. as to the 44special, those gold dots are pretty impressive at the right velocity. Nasty looking mothers. i have the .41mag version of that, sans the ports. And have some 265grain cast hollowpoints on my desk rightnow. It opens up enough for me. Yuck, on taking the finish off the grips.
