I'd like to add a flashlight to the rail on my bed gun - Springfield XD40. This gun stays in the house and is my primary middle of the night gun.

Any recommendations?

Looks like most of the Streamlights are switched on/off with the trigger finger? How well does that work?

There's a switch on both sides.

I am going to swim upstream here....

Surefire X300 or X300U. Having owned and used lights from Streamlight, Insight, and Surefire....Surefire is absolutely my choice every time.

X300 Ultra for me, too. Very bright and clean light.

During waking hours, this Glock 17 is my carry gun (in an El Paso Saddlery C-Force IWB). At bedtime, the Surefire goes on it, and it goes inside my nightstand drawer.

Sights are Trijicon HD.

PS I have Streamlights, too, and they work great also. One isn't noticeably better than the other, IMO.

I probably am in a minority, but I really don’t like high intensity lights for indoor use, especially when awakened from a sleep in a dark room or with eyes adjusted to the dark. My handheld light on the night stand only throws 120 lumens. I think the standard TLR-1 or older Surefire X300 throwing 300 lumens is more than enough.

After reading this thread, I just purchased the TLR 4 (laser and flashlight combo). It is only 110 lumens but should be more then enough for my needs.

Looked at the Cabelas website and saw they had the TL3 on sale so I ordered one up on points. Flashlight only and 125 lumens. The small size seems appealing to me. It was only $85 so not out much if it doesn't work well.

I have the Surefire X300U-B on my Springfield 1911-A1. It's my primary HD weapon, and also goes on all my camping trips as 'tent gun'. 600 lumens of well directed light. Easy to operate. Instant on or constant on mode. Bought two of 'em. Put one on my Son's Springfield 1911-A1 also. They are just about perfect.

The "too many lumens" argument has to be one of the easiest ways to identify those who have no clue.

I don't know how anyone survived before they invented all those extra lumens.

I saw on Springfields website they have this item called the Recover Grip. It allows a 1911 owner too have a rail attached to their pistol. 49$ is all.
