Thinking this summer may be the one to burn more 22 ammo than anything else.. Interested in rolling up a bolt 22. Should finish similar to a tactical style. I want my kids to have tons of trigger time and i will mod the stock accordingly..
single shot or repeater. doesn't matter. Budget is of concern. Factory rig is fine. Hoping to build just cause... would like to finish waiting for glass in the $500-600 range... 40x is great but the prices are silly....
thanks woofer

with the exception of 10/22 & 77/22, who, other than serious BR shooters, build their own rimfires? ... not flaming, just haven't heard of many folks doing that.
Clarks comes close for a 77/22 build, but haven't looked at their prices lately.

With no exceptions that come to mind...avoid one action screw .22s. Bedding is the big deal so, one screws need not apply. The big three ANZ54,Win52,40XR are the shortcuts, especially if you go 40XR because short action 700 goodies abound. I have had success fitting a second screw to 540 Rems for a super lightweight shooter... Look at CZs also, but since you said the T-word get the 40XR. Best wishes, Bill

CZ - they have a known accuracy record, are relatively inexpensive, a trigger rework kit for them costs only around $15.00.
The Varmint version has one action screw and a barrel screw, they seem to shoot just fine that way and it is possible to tune the rifle a bit by teawking the barrel screw. The American (sporter) has two action screws.
They are a good "bang-for-the-buck" rifle.
I know a fellow who is shooting a restocked one in IR/55 competition and doing quite well with it, all he has done is rework the trigger with the inexpensive kit and reworked the stock a bit so it rides the bags a bit better.

Winchester Model 52 & Ruger 77/22
Both of these rimfire actions are worthy enough to build a full custom 100 year or heirloom bench gun to pass on to your kids.
The CZ452 is also a very nice action for a build.
I like them all.
Good luck with your new bench gun build!

On the thread below you will see what I am doing on a 40XR for shooting tin cans. I have 2-452CZ rifles and haven't shot them yet. I think they would be your best choice for your price. Butch

Stumbled across an ancient mossberg at the shop.. 22LR heavy barrel with an appropriate bench stock... Nice elevation style peep sight... very slick... cant wait for snow to go..
