Just a heads up, was at Academy here in Birmingham yesterday and they had some of their guns marked down. From what I understand it is just some odd and end guns that they are clearing out. I picked up a Stevens 200 in .223 for $199. I also saw a 700 SPS .223 for $288 I checked out the other locations in town and they all had some guns on clearance but all were different so your results may vary but may be worth checking out.

I probably should have got it instead of the Stevens for $199, but I have several Rem 700s and have never owned a Savage/Stevens and wanted to see why everyone loves these ugly guns so much.

Thanks. My first Stevens cost $199 and it has been a great hunting rifle. Ugly, but effective.

Just checked my local Academy and the only calibers they have left in the 700SPS are 30-06, 7RM, and 22-250.

Are all the SPS clearance at under $300?!? Sadly, the store I checked didn't have any racehorse deals like the $288 SPS. They did have synthetic stocked ADLs marked down to $349 though. Tempting, but I passed. Had they had a 26" 7mmRM I might have jumped.

I just stopped by an Academy here in San Antonio. They had a Marlin in blued/synthetic 30-06 for $288. That would be a great deal for someone looking to get into rifle hunting.

There was two stores in the Birmingham area that had the sps's for $288. One was in Trussville and had a 223 and 243......had grin. The other had more guns but I don't know which store that was?
