Saw a new Browning X-Bolt today. Stainless steel tupperware stock, 308 Win. caliber and a price tag of $980.....ouch !!!
This got me to thinking.........with a good donor action from a crapped out gun show rifle, a good quality barrel and Micky stock what is a reasonable price for a rifle build???

Action, for whatever you get it at, McMillan stock $400, stainless Douglas, cut/chambered/installed $300'ish, add more depending on barrel.

Well, I did my .308 Norma as follows: Rifle/scope $175 sold scope -75 ____ $100 ITD 380 total $480 Now with the McMillan that pushes it to $905. My 6.5-06AI $250 IT&D $360 ____________ $610 total put it back in factory stock.

My smith quoted me $500-$550 for a rebarrel on any action I choose. ER Shaw has decent prices listed but it starts getting close to $500 when you add in installation by them and finishing. I'm assuming ER Shaw barrels would need to be finished, bead blast on stainless? I think the blued comes in the white. Never ordered from them.
I doubt you'd save any significant amount of cash going rebarrel vs. factory. Not too much choice if one has a wild hair up their ass for a 358 Norma (me).
