Having just purchased a howa ranchland compact in 308 I am looking for a lighter and trimmer stock to replace the Hogue. I have tracked down some "mountaineer" stocks but can't find a picture of one to see what it looks like. The old mountaineer rifles comb had alot of drop and wouldn't work well with a scope.
Can someone help me out? I may just order a new walnut stock that has high gloss but am looking for more options.

You can get one from Brownells under the High Tech Specialties name that fits the Howa. These are light weight Bansner stocks. I have several of these stocks on rem 700's and 7's and just sold a Howa with one.

Saw that last night. thought I would try a wood stock as they are only $135. Would like to keep this one reasonable budget wise.

www.hightech-specialties.com is where I'd look. For $290 you get a stock blank. You'll need to do a small amount of final fitting, glue on a recoil pad, (I suggest a flip flop pad to save weight and money), and paint it yourself. I've done several. It ain't rocket science. This is the only option under $600 that will be any lighter than what is on the gun. It will take 1/2 to 3/4 lb off the guns weight.

I may hold off until next year and look into the bansner stocks. Save my pennys for a while.
