I own a few "Classic" Remingtons, some limited productions and some standard productions back when they made them.
have been thinking or rather guessing what caliber Remington will go with in 2005.
Any guesses? Anyone heard?
Here are my guesses: 458 Lott (I will buy one of them)
9.3x62 (this is my guess)
338-06(wouldn't that be just wonderful?)
7mm Remington Express(you think they will go down that road again? 280 Rem seems such a mundain name for a great round like this)
308 Norma Mag (hmmmm or even the 358 Norma?)
*** WSM? (I will choke them if they do)
416 Rem? (maybe, but I doubt it)
I don't know. If any of you have heard, tell me. If not, anymore guesses?

I've heard it is going to be in .308 Winchester. That was back in October, and not a word since.

They'd be stupid not to offer the WSM.
My dealer showed me the Sportsouth screen that showed the inventory and there are a bunch of closeouts which means Remington is making some big changes.

Hudge This would only make sense. It's as much a "classic" as some of the other chamberings.

The only choice for a "classic" should be 7-08. By the way, controlled -round feed should be a factor.

I think you may be right about the 308 Win. I wonder why I never thought of it, especially give that I love the round owning a Pre 64 m88 and an older Browning m81 in that caliber.
The real irony is that in the past few months, I have contemplated buying a good bolt gun in 308. However, my plans were to do up a Sniper Rifle of sorts in that caliber. I have no intention on using it on people and I pray to God, that I never have to, but I am fasinated with Snipers and their rifles. Sniping a feral cat off a distant haystack would be my idea of playing sniper anyway.
My plans actually were to build up a Weatherby Vanguard (I prefer a standard contor to a heavy barreled sniper rifle)complete with one of their "update" stocks with aluminum bedding and a good trigger job and a nice Leupold Mil Dot scope. So a pretty little Remington Classic 308, though neat, is not what I had in mind.
If you are right, I might buy one, but I just have so many other wishes for other rifles and handguns, I will have to think about it.
thx

Well, since I just bought the 2001 model in 7mm-08, I wouldn't be in the market for this .308 anytime soon. Still, a Classic in .308 would be such a sweet thang though. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Classic rifle, classic cartridge... There may be no more iconic "deer" gun for 2005.
