OP Fishinado Campfire Member Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 228 People's Republic of CA	It's a pre-war Sauer that has been re-chambered to .35 Whelen. Not having any experience with that cartridge, just wondering if it would be ok to shoot with modern ammo, and would I be nuts to hunt with such a thing? Last edited by Fishinado; 01/03/09. In fact, I run a museum for old rifles and would love to display it behind glass, where it will be preserved and pampered. How much you want for that useless rifle?

I find it very satisfying to hunt with older firearms, the ones our Dad's and Granddad's considered state of the art - it adds to the enjoyment of hunting to me. If you like this one, you should see some of the others! It's kinda on display right now, just can't bring myself to take her outside! Might get dirty! It's absolutely pristine. I imagine it was a GI bringback, and was probably chambered in that 9.3xsomethingorother caliber, and then was re-chambered for .35 Whelen which is supposed to be the closest. I'll take it out soon and see how she shoots. Hopefully it won't get too dirty!! If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

I think it needs to go on a wild pig hunt hunt, that peep sight is just screaming for a hog. Hank P.S. if you go pig hunting can I join ya? Roughly half the people you meet are below average intelligence.

Putting outdoor wear and tear on a fine, fine piece of work like that would be, IMHO, a tad bit of a shame. You know, in the same manner as you don't break out a 20 year old, $100 bottle of Scotch around the campfire, and chase it with beer, either.
