man do i really like my dpms lr-308 with a 24" s.s fluted barrel.
took me a few loads to find what it likes, but man, oh man, do it like 168 grain sierra bthp's over imr4064.

running the "shooter" download ballistics program on my phone.
it's off a few clicks, as i found out when shooting the steel today.

didn't wait for the 200 meter and 300 meter plates to quit swinging so my groups are just a bit bigger than i think they would be if standing still.

here's my first 3 shot group at 200 meters.
4 clicks up.

[Linked Image]

3 shots at 300 meters.
14 clicks up.
[Linked Image]

5 shots at a still 400 meter plate.
25 clicks up, was a bit high. clicked it down 3, to 22 and the shots centered up much better. the "strips" of steel on the plate are 4" wide.
was watching the rounds all hit close, so i kept shooting !

and 34 clicks at 500 yards. we have a 500 yard plate and a 500 meter.

clicked it down 4 clicks and was dead on after this group.
i am very impressed with this 3 shot group. i measured it at just under 2" !

all in all, my dpms lr-308 is extremely accurate, recoil is about nil, it's heavy all right, and the trigger is really not that bad after a bit on tinkering.

antelope's beware ! i have 2 168 grain bthp's with your names on them.
2 others are on 80 grain ttsx's in my 257 roberts !

I had one of those rifles! Mine was also crazy accurate (loved the Nosler 155's and Varget).

You running the stock trigger?

stoned it a bit for a better engagement.

Nice shooting Mark, that is one hell of an accurate rifle. What scope are you running on that bad boy???

And the others would look like this or what????:

600 = 51
700 = 71
800 = 93
900 = 118
1000 = 147

Now the other question. Does that scope allow for that amount of adjustment if you were to shoot 1000 or would you have to put a 20 moa base or similar on it?? By the way, I'm pretty impressed with that rifle: My boss has one and I know they are phenomenal as far as accuracy is concerned. I'm also going to buy some of those sierra bullets to try in my FN PBR XP 300 wsm grin

so far this is what i've come up with.
altitude is 6000, and tempt of 90.

600 = 43
700 = 57
800 = 76

my numbers are just a few clicks different than the shooter program and i messed with the velo., to get my clicks to match what i was shooting.
don't care if some of the numbers are off as i am more interested in keeping an actual clicks in my phone, so no guessing when i need the info.

actual shooting to computer numbers are close, but to know for sure one needs to actually shoot.

i haven't taken it past 800 yet, so i am not sure how many clicks i have left.

DPMS 308's typically do shoot well. One major thing is you REALLY ought to stop counting "clicks" and use "minutes" or MOA's..

this is what it would look like instead-

200- 1 MOA
300- 3.5 MOA
400- 5.5 MOA
500- 7.5 MOA
600- 10.75 MOA
etc, etc...

and instead of counting 43 clicks you spin it to 10 and 3/4 or 11 minus 1. Much faster and easier....

i totaly agree.
but to get to that point, i count, then look.
groups on targets tell when you have reached the proper clicks, then look at the numbers on the side of the turrets, and that is your quick easy spin to.

but,
i am ordering a custom kenton industries turret, and that will have the yardages, and make it so much easier to just spin to what the laser is telling me.

wind drift is another matter...
