I use a 3" 11-87 with a 21" VR barrel. Choke is a Kicks Howler and for ammo, I only shoot 3" Federal Premium #4 buckshot. Honest 50 yard killer!

I have a 870 Super Express 3 1/2" Magnum with a 8 shot extender, and an Undertaker choke. I installed a pistol grip on the pump, so I can cycle it faster.

I used to shoot only Dead Coyote, till I did a job in Nebraska. There was a goose hunter there that let me try 3 1/2" Steel BBB. Haven't looked back. Extended my kill range to 65-70 yards.

Got a double with that shotgun a few years ago. Was calling along the river, that was froze. Seen those 2 coming at a fast pace. Kept quite till they stopped, then squeaked them on. They ran right up to me. I let the farthest one get to within 60 yards, then shot him. Then took the other one at about 50 yards.

Steel shot will never kill as well as lead -

Try some 3 1/2" lead BB for dogs and it will be just that much better.

xverminator has a good setup. My setup is an 870 with 23" barrel shooting a Hastings choke. It too, is an honest 50+ yard killer

Another rem 870 -mine is the express magnum 3" w/an HS Strut extra full choke- 23" barrel.
I think mine would kill a coyote at further than 50yds -the pattern is about the size of a big beach ball @ 45yds measured -perfectly round and all the pellets seperated very evenly -win. black box 3" #4 buckshot.
This is the first shotgun i ever patterned -a couple of people told me i got lucky finding a load like that so fast.
Also i read that quite often shotguns will shoot far worse patterns if the barrel has more than a few shots -so i bought a boresnake and tested that theory -after only two shots i could see the great patterns mentioned start to come apart-after five shots it became very noticable.
I plan on doing some coyote and bobcat whacking w/the gun real soon.
I've said it before if i had a shotgun in hand when predator calling i would have killed a lot more critters -but i'm a rifle butthead -but trying to get over that..

Benelli M2 with 24" barrel. I have a couple different chokes, mostly indian creek and rhino. I've had good luck with lead 2's, dead coyote, and #4 buck.

I use both 3 inch and 3.5 inch loads. If I'm going to pay full price for something like dead coyote I'll buy 3.5 but I buy 3 inch loads of bb as I come across a good deal. I've got a small stock pile of rem. wingmaster hd bb 3 inch because it was a good deal and it's plenty good enough.

3.5 inch loads will put more pellets on target but I don't think you give up much. I like the option.

I only use the 3.5 inch in the Dead Coyote loads and use the Fed Prem. 3 inch Copper Plated in the Number 4 Buck. I have actually killed more varmints with the Standard High Brass 2&3/4 inch lead fours and fives.

What kind of pattern are you getting from 60 to 80 yards with your rig?

Enough to where it will kill a coyote stone dead at 60. I will say 80 is stretching it and usually involves some extra work for recovery, but i still let er rip!

Great question... shame there are never any great answers from those blessed with such wonderful shotguns.

Just keep shooting them until they stay down and don't try to get up. Personally 40 yards is my limit with the shotgun regardless of the load I'm using
