Cant decide which one to get. Deerslayer II is a pump and the Savage 220 is a bolt action. Wanting a 20gauge slug gun, and the savage has a 22" barrel, and Deerslayer has a 24".
Any opinions?

Don't know much about the savage except that it might be more accurate. the Deerslayer is a classic and is probably the one I'd go with.

The Savage slug guns just plain shoot. I am glad to see they added a 20 gauge to the product line. The few groups I have witnessed with the 12 gauge have been most impressive.

I just find it amazingly short-sighted for a major gunmaker to give their new bolt-action shotgun the same model designation as their previous shotgun of a different design (break-open single-shot): the Model 220.

It ain't no fun, when the rabbit's got the gun

I was also curious, the new savage 220 only has a 22" barrel. That's 2" shorter than other slug guns and wondering if it will effect the accuracy?

All other things being equal the shorter barrel should make it more accurate as it would be stiffer.

The new Ithacas may be tighter than the old, but the old ones were pretty good slug throwers in their own right. I'd buy the Ithaca, to go along with the others I already own The Deerslayer is an awesome hunting weapon.

I'm not quite sure I'd want a bolt action slug gun. Just grew up in IN with folks hunting deer with pumps and a few semi-auto's.
