Henry's web site claims the new steel framed version of their new single shot rifle will begin shipping next month. Any pre-production examples out there yet? Like maybe getting reviewed by gun scribes so Henry can get these out in the eye of the gun buying public? Just wondering..... Can't wait to see a write up, and to eventually see one in person at a local shop and fondle it. Kind of curious if anyone outside of Henry has even seen one yet.

If they're good shooters, have good triggers, etc. I could see myself picking one up. M.S.R.P. is also still listed at $427. Only problem is I could see either a .308 or a 44 Mag. but can't decide on which one.

I'm waiting for the promised .357 Mag model. If they're nice, I can see a couple or three finding a home with me. A .308 would be incredibly useful when combined with some clever handloading.

I might try a .30-30, if they make one. So far it is not listed on their site:

They list the 308 Win at $427 on the Henry site. If they make a 30-30, I think that would be the price as well. Cheaper perhaps in a store.

Price wise, how do the Henry single shots compare to the Contender in the US?

From the Henry site: Covering everything from coyotes to moose, in steel the calibers include .223, 243, .308, .44 Magnum, and .45-70; and in brass .44 Magnum and .45-70.

The brass framed rifles are $549.

I was thinking the same thing regarding the 308, as I already do 308. But then; I also reload 44 Mag.. Either way they could be very useful with "clever handloading".

So the Henry would be a less expensive alternative. I just ordered a Contender and paid $469 for it, but it comes without a barrel. I'll be putting a 30-30 on it.

I hope that Henry builds their single shots better than H&R. I've had a devil of a time with most of those. I still own 3 H&R SS, but will spend the extra money in the future, should I want a SS.

I'm hoping to read a few reviews about the Henry myself. Hopefully some people will get one and put them through their paces.

This video was made last October. It shows off the complete line of Henry rifles. At 21:00 he talks about the new single shot rifle and holds one up for the camera.

It's not a review, but if you would like to see the latest Henry lineup of rifles, this video will do the trick.

supposedly, after many requests they're supposed to make a 30/30
later on. i'll be buying one myself.
it wouldn't hurt to send an E-mail to the henry company with your
desire for a 30/30 to let them know of the demand

A 7 pound single shot that does not interchange barrels. I think I will stick with a 5 pound Contender carbine with interchangeable barrels and live with the 44,000 psi pressure limitation of the Contender action.

That's what I was thinking. I have a No. 1 in 45-70, but there are factory and aftermarket barrels for the Contender that I might consider.

I'm taking a bath buying the Contender because of the exchange rate. Got my credit card bill - $656 and I have to get the barrel, but Rugers are over $1700 here, plus 13% tax.

Henry rifles take forever to get up here so I decided on the TC rifle.
