Decided to go with 150gr btips as a deer smacker and would like to know what powder you'd pick for loading one. I'd like to use H4350, H1000 or Retumbo if possible. Gun has a 24" barrel. Winchester brass.

Would like to get 3100fps if possible.

All those powders will work, but I've had the most consistent accuracy in the 7mm Remington Magnum with the 150 BT using H4350. In fact that powder and bullet are what I use these days to test any new (or new to me) 7mm RM to see if the rifle has problems.

How is the velocity with H4350? Seems a bit fast for a 7mm to me, but I've never tried it. I've had good luck with 140 and 160gr bullets and burn rates more along the lines of RL22.

Sounds like U R good to go from MD's recommendation.

IF BY CHANCE H 4350 doesn't work for U, I've had very good luck w IMR 7828.

was kind of hoping someone would say H4350. I have 8lbs of it. What kind of speed are you getting? I do hunt in colder weather -20 so I would like to stick to 215 primers.

It's easy to get 3100 or even 3200 with either H4350 or IMR4350 with a 150 in the 7mm RM. Yeah, you can get a little more velocity with slower powders, and in some rifles a little better accuracy.

All I'm saying is that in a number of 7mm RM rifles I've gotten the best overall accuracy with one of the 4350's. These days usually run H4350, because it meters so much better than IMR4350, and is less temperature sensitive.

Your rifle may very well perform a little better with H4831, RL-22, IMR7828--or Retumbo or Ramshot Hunter or Magnum. Some of mine have. But with bullets in the 150-grain range I've gotten the most consistent accuracy (and plenty of velocity) in at least 7-8 7mm Remington Magnum rifles with IMR or H4350. So I always try H4350 first, before experimenting with other powders.

If I ever find a decent buck, I'll see what that 7mm 150gr Nosler BT can do from the STW.But can say it's one accurate bullet.

I get over 3100 with H1000

This is just me but, I'd go 7828 and R25 as my first two powders to give a go.

I get good results and velocity using Retumbo in mine with the 150TTSX. 7828, H1000 H4350 would also do well. I'd start with the H4350 as Mule Deer suggests if you have it on hand. Then take your pick of 7828, H1K or Retumbo.

use Rem brass with this load, win brass blows the groups

I have had good luck with the 150 BT and Partition in the 7 Rem Mag with 68 gr H4831 for about 3150...also,70 gr RL25 for about 3120.

I like 68grs of 7828 215fm 150gr bt 3150 from my rem 700 26inch barrel.

I went and tried 7828 today. 68gr with the 150 btip 10 thou off the lands gave me ~2945 fps. Had slight ejector marks. Did shoot some nice groups but not really the speed I'm looking for. Will try H4350 next.

don't leave out H4831 , great powder in the 7mm Mag
