I just learned about this while prowling around on the web,
has anybody fired one. or owned one?

I take it you mean the 500/465? If so, I've fired it but as far as owning one, no chance. Proprietary H&H loading meaning H&H gun meaning LOTS of money to own one. Basically the ballistic twin of ALL the +/- 45 NE calibers, 480-500gr pill2150 fps. jorge

What I saw was that it was based on a necked up 378 Weatherby.
I'm guessing that not too many have been made.
After you mentioned your double, I saw some double rifles at Cabelas and decided to poke around just for relief from the "cabin fever".
I wish now that I would have sought out an apprenticeship from a big name gunmaker. It one job that is not done in China!

Chuck Hawks lists it as you said, based on 378roy case. First I've heard of it.

They introduced the 465 H&H at the same time as the 400 H&H. The smaller 400 is based on the 375 H&H while the 465 does use a similar case to the big Weatherby. It is a belted, rimless design that uses a .468 bullet.

As I remember the 470 Capstick had pretty similar performance (.475 caliber 500g bullet at 2400 fps) and it's an easy build from a 375 H&H. The Winchester Custom shop actually made some M70s in 470 Capstick.

I noticed one of the doubles was 50,000 Pounds and the other was over 100,000 Pounds.

What is the exchange rate to convert Pounds to Dollars?

Not that I am in the market for one. I am just curious about how the other half live.

So, the engraved double would go for about $200,000.00, and the bolt rifle would go for about $40,000.00.

I am sure the bolt rifle is nice, but I cannot comprehend what you can do to a Mauser action, even one of the high dollar custom made ones, that would make a rifle worth that much.

That rifle looks like it would be about $10,000 to $15000.00 from one of the top custom makers in the United States.

Considering all the work that goes into building a double, I would say that they are worth it and I would not haggle on the price, but I think the bolt rifles are way over priced.

I don't have to worry about haggling on the price. If H&H offered to give it to me free of charge, I could not afford the cost to have it shipped to me. And I certainly could not afford even one single cartridge.

IIRC that's less than the starting price of a David Miller Classic bolt action. Most of these rifles must be sitting in the gun racks of Lamborghinis in either Texas or the shores of the Persian Gulf. Can't see how mere mortals might afford to take these hunting.

I was at SCI Reno in 2010 and I must've come back to the Holland and Holland booth like 10 times. I saw a lovely bolt action 375 H&H and a 500 Jeffery that if I was ridiculously wealthy I would just have to have. Ridiculously wealthy to me means about 100 times more money than I have now lol ... And I'd hunt with them too!

You are difinately and positively correct about that. The 'can't afford it' part, anyway.

Owned one for 15 years, not an H&H but a Grenshaw & it weighted in at 11.5 or there about. Accuracy was a quart oil can at 85 yds either barrel when fired one after the other, left then right within 10 seconds or less. 480 Kynoch ammo was still around then ( 1968 ) but now not sure about anything other than H&H stuff & Bell Brass or RWS. This was not a bench piece unless you were very tired. Recoil was close to the modern 458 or 404 in my opinion. Now the rounds bring 10-20 bucks depending on make & type, Kynoch factory suffered a fire in 64 so that stuff if around is kind of a history lesson. Hope this helps.
