How far would YOU, feel comfortable shooting a buck with the 260 Rem and what kind of load or factory ammo would you use to do it.

I would feel comfortable at 500 yds with mine loaded with a 130 gr. Accubond or a 130 VLD. But that's only because I know what mine will do at that range, it will kill deer farther, but I don't shoot farther than that at live game.

I've taken multiple deer at 300 yds with mine...100 grain Ballistic Tips, with a 3350 fps MV out of a 22 inch barreled Ruger 77 Mk 2.
Last time I zeroed the scope on the new barrel on the Model 70 I just put a new 260 barrel on, with a 120 grain Ballistic Tip.
Nailed a doe sized steel target at 500 meters easily with that load... handloaded like the one above.

I'd run ours to 500 yards with a 140 accubond with no worries on deer.

ive shot 260 out to 1200 yrds. the farthest shot on a deer was last year at 430 yrds. if conditions were right i would go much farther with a 140 gr bullet.

I don't normally shoot over 400 on deer, but others have, and in the 260/ai, 140 amax's to and over 650 yds, over on the LR hunting site..
It will kill beyond probably 95-98% of the licensed hunters skill IMO. Turrets/LRFs/Lots of practice, and little wind will increase your odds immensely.
If one is planning on LONG shots - i.e. 400+, the 140 Amax and Bergers would be my choice, as soft is not bad and only ensures expansion during penetration to vitals.

Depends on how far you are comfortable with. I have take a couple bucks just shy of 600yards with my factory 260 24" with 140 amax's before i built it up for my F-Class rig. Now it sports a 30"
I built a savage 260 with a 32" barrel and am pushing the 123's a little over 3300fps. Quite accurate at 1000 yards and get there quick.
I haven't tried any of the 140 class bullets in it but am sure i can get over 3000fps with them.
Would i shoot one at 1000? Probably not unless conditions were perfect. 800 i would feel comfortable.

I have shot pigs further than 1K with 6.5x284 I can not see a reason I would not shoot a deer that far with a .260 assuming conditions were acceptable.

I hav e never owned or shot a .260 Remington but I do have a .264/06 (6.5/06) for you European types! Now this rifle with a 130 grain Nosler Accubond bullet would do just fine between 400 and 500 yards if the shooter is a good enough marksman. My load for this rifle & bullet has a velocity of 3150fps.

Sharpsman - I answered the question, referring to reports on deer killed by 260/ai on longrangehunting.com. Does that clarify? Sorry I was not more clear.

750 yards, 130g accubond over H4350. The 130 AB gives up very little in BC to the 140 AB but can start at least 100fps faster. MV 2900 from my 22" carbon wrapped barrel and it shoots 1/2 moa. Might work farther but at 750 the velocity is dropping below 1800 although it might still expand below that.
Any further and I'd go for the 140 Amax for a real increase in BC and probably better expansion at low speeds.
I'm getting ready to try the 140 Amax in my 26" barrel VLS. It's bone stock other than the rifle basics trigger so it's a 9 twist but they might work at my altitude. It loves the 140g match kings over H4350 or 4831sc but I'm hoping the Amaxes will shoot. I've hit many rock chucks at the 600 or so yard mark with the match kings and they work but no fireworks. The amax should open better and increase my bc significantly.

Burley,
I haven't tried that new 123 grain A Max, but that is suppose to do what the 140 A Max will... but with the 1 in 9 twist, if your rifle won't stabilize the 140s..
the old 100 and 120 grain ballistic tips can get pretty explosive waaaaay out there... at least in my VLS at 600 yds plus
